U14 Cricket v AKS - Saturday 6 May
AKS - 72 all out (Anderson and Thompson with 2 wickets each)
KGS - 73 for 7 (Pendergest 21 / Macaulay 22)
KGS won by 3 wickets
On a cloudy, windy morning on the Fylde, the visitors batted first and were soon in trouble with 5 wickets falling for less than 30 runs. A lower-order partnership gave AKS a chance with the score progressing to 72 before being bowled out. Kirkham bowled well as a unit and they took wickets regularly although could have been even more ruthless and wrapped up the innings even more quickly. Spin made a significant contribution to proceedings and Alex Carson, Harry Thomas and George Thompson all bowled well, with Thompson picking up two wickets in his spell of leg spin. In reply, Kirkham lost 3 early wickets, but a strong partnership between Ewan Macaulay and Max Pendergest, put the team into a strong position. Hearts fluttered as the team lost three further wickets before the boys got over the line thanks to a cameo innings from Joel Yarwood who played a fine cover drive to secure victory by 3 wickets. Another pleasing victory against local rivals.
