2nd Round NatWest Schools Cup
WON 19-7
After an uncharacteristic nervy start from the Kirkham Grammar School U15 side, Jake Merrick scored a fantastic individual try from deep in the KGS half. Aaron Pope had pounced on a loose ball and Merrick was quick to take advantage of the Lancaster disorganised defence showing excellent footwork and pace. Immediately after the restart the Kirkham backs moved the ball to the left wing, Finding Tobias Parkinson who set off down the touch line before passing to supporting player Tom Gut who scored Kirkham’s second try. Kirkham’s third try of the game came from some impressive quick thinking from Aaron Pope when he put a well weighted kick in behind the Lancaster defence for right winger Joe Medcalf to run onto. The ball popped up at the right time and Medcalfe crossed the line. Lancaster managed to score just before half time following some strong direct running. There were no scores in the second half with both sides defending very well. Pope converted two of Kirkham’s tries making the final score 19-7.
