1st XI vs Withington Girls School
Won 5-0
The 1st XI took to the pitch away at Withington Girls last week. The girls have struggled over the last few weeks due to poor weather conditions. After a few rocky minutes at the start whistle they soon got into their stride and dominated throughout.
Great play in the midfield set forwards through on goal with Anna Wilkinson, Lucie Ethell and Holly James converting in the first half.
The second half certainly wasn’t disappointing as the KGS side continued to fizz the ball around creating chance after chance. A further 2 goals left the final score at 5-0. A great game back after some horrendous weather conditions.
Saturday 9/2
1st XI vs Grammar School at Leeds
The 1st XI experienced a slow game in high winds on Saturday morning against a well matched GSAL side. The girls tried to raise the tempo but it proved impossible in tough conditions. Lucie Ethell and Anna Wilkinson created chances up front but unfortunately couldn’t beat the GSAL keeper. Great defensive play from Lucy Barrow and Libby Baxter kept the opposition out but the game ended 0-0.
U15 v GSAL
Won 4-0
The U15s dominated from the first whistle with wave after wave of attacks. The Kirkham defence were not really tested in a game where Captain Agatha Barker-Mill and Vice-Captain Libby Baxter totally controlled the centre; Emma Savidge caused chaos driving from right midfield and Lexie Fraser posed a constant threat in the D. Kirkham won the game 4-0 with goals from Emma Savidge and a hat-trick from Lexie Fraser. Well done to all the girls for a very solid team performance
U14 v GSAL
Won 2-1
The U14s faced GSAL, a strong side who have always produced a competitive fixture. From the first whistle the game was end to end, both teams attacking and the majority of the play in the middle of the pitch. KGS had a different formation due to absences however, due to their impressive versatility they were able to step up and performed to a high standard. Kirkham managed to have chance after chance in front of goal yet struggled to convert. GSAL made one strong break and with an impressive strike from top of the D GSAL went 1-0 up. Half time arrived and Kirkham were determined to turn the score line around. After a formation change for Kirkham to produce a more attacking approach KGS scored making it 1-1. With only three minutes to go, both teams demonstrated determination to get the win. Jessica Cole picked up the ball on the half way line, ran down the wing and slipped it Talia Armstead who took a first time shot with the ball finishing in the roof of the goal making it 2-1 to KGS.
U13 v GSAL
The U13s were desperately unlucky to lose 2-1 to GSAL following a short corner awarded just as the final whistle went.
This fixture gave an opportunity for lots of the U13s to get vital game experience before their upcoming Holland tour and all the girls involved made the most of these opportunities. KGS dominated the first half with goalkeeper Ellee Mee and the defence of Millie Homan, Sadie Drury, Lily Harrison and Rebecca Fisher largely untroubled. Sophie Birchall-Farr and Alicia Threlfall offered excellent width in midfield with Jess Cole and Emily Marsh both driving forward from the centre of midfield. Daisy Gibbs and Heidi Aldeen took up good positions in attack and retained possession well.
KGS took the lead in the second half through Emily Marsh after an excellent pass from Jess Cole. As GSAL pushed forward the KGS defence couldn’t withstand the pressure as they conceded two late goals. The girls did not deserve to lose the game but have learnt a great deal from the experience.
U12 vs GSAL
Won 2-1
The U12A VII impressed once again with their skill, speed and determination. In an end to end game it was clear from very early on that the result would be close with both teams having several opportunities through on goal. KGS opened the score line with a great open play goal with Eva Berry, Alexa Anderson and Frankie Margerison displaying some excellent build up play. GSAL managed to equalise which left the score at 1-1 at the half time break. In the second half some excellent runs from Lilly Jones opened up space for Frankie Margerison to hit home with a second leaving the final score at 2-1 to KGS. An excellent game!
In the U12B VII the forwards worked hard to create opportunities up front with Keira Tomes and Lucy Wildish hitting home. A strong GSAL side struck back and left the score at 2-3 at the half time break. More opportunities came but unfortunately KGS failed to convert in another end to end game.
