KGS v Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL)
1st XI
The 1st XI has a rocky start to their final game of the season. Although they worked hard in tough conditions, they turned the ball over far too often to give GSAL control of the game. After going 0-2 down it was always going to be tough to fight back. Hollie James scored a great open play goal in the second half but this wasn’t enough to get KGS the victory.
U15 won 3-1
The U15 girls played their last Saturday match together as a team and performed brilliantly. Kirkham dominated from the start, they were totally solid at the back and in midfield and lively up front. Each and every player gave it 100% as they have done all season. Two goals from Emma Savidge and a goal from Agatha Barker-Mill gave the girls a well-earned 3-1 victory. Well done girls and good luck with your senior hockey next season.
U13
The U13s finished their season with a last-gasp draw against GSAL. Both teams were evenly matched and strong defending by both sides meant there were very few chances in the game. The KGS defence and midfield held a strong shape and repelled everything GSAL could throw at them. In attack, Rachel Watson and Alicia Threlfall caused havoc with their pressing and direct running at defenders. KGS went 1-0 down from a GSAL short corner which was forced home from close range after a good save by Anya Jackson. But KGS never gave up and continued to put pressure in GSAL with Jess Cole equalising with 10 seconds left as she beat 2 defenders before finishing into the corner with a powerful hit
U12 A and B
Both U12 squads continued to demonstrate the progress that they have made this season. Shot after shot was hit at goal but some great goal keeping kept KGS out. Superb defending on both pitches from Mia Carmichael, Georgia Nichols, Grace Livesey and Sarah Chatwin kept GSAL out for most of the game. In the latter stages GSAL managed to convert leaving the final scores for the A team at 0-2 and B team 0-1.
