Henry Smith, with a thoughtful and positive 16 late on, secured victory against Our Lady RC School, in a thrilling finish at fortress Ribby Road, on Monday night. He defended superbly on the off side and played to his strengths, by punishing the loose deliveries to the leg side boundary. Our Lady batted first, achieving 78 for 9 off their alloted 20 overs. What was encouraging to home fans, was that many of the bowlers posted their first wickets of the season. Snape 2 for 12, Mihell 2 for 9, Hodgson 1 for 9, Parkinson 2 for 12, McNamee 2 for 9. McNamee's fine contribution also included the crucial catch of the dangerous Lupton. In reply, Hodgson was played well for 8 and Snape looked to take charge with two monstrous sixes in his brief stay of 14. McNamee and Mihell chipped in with 5 a piece and Mellon struck a belligerent quick-fire 11. Pleasingly, like the bowling, everyone contributed to this top team win. It left Smith, ably assisted by Anderson, to get KGS over the line in the 18th over to book a place in the next round.
KGS 81 for 7 and won by 3 wickets.
