Sedbergh Invitational Cross Country Event - Thursday 30 September 2021
Our U13 cross country team travelled to Sedbergh School for their annual cross country event. It was certainly an impressive field of runners and the conditions were challenging but KGS stepped up to the challenge recording some excellent results.
1st year pupil Aimee Harling lead the team home in 15th place followed by Xara Lewis in 26th, Emilia Simpson in 37th, Hermione Edwards 38th, Hollie Bailey 39th, Zara Gilchrist in 43rd and Issy Gut in 48th. This excellent set of results left The KGS girls in 5th place overall.
A fantastic achievement and a great start to the season!

U14/15 - Lost 3-0
A KGS U14/15 XI took on Wakefield in cold and wet conditions. KGS were immediately on the back foot as Wakefield pressed high up the pitch; good defending from KGS kept the score at 0-0 early on. A lapse in concentration from a long corner, however, let in Wakefield down the right hand side and left an attacker free at the back post. 1-0 down at half time, KGS regrouped and managed to break the Wakefield press and get the ball into attacking areas. Louisa Procter was a constant threat from midfield with her direct running which caused the Wakefield defence all sorts of problems. Despite their improved performance in the second half, KGS conceded a further 2 goals to eventually lose 3-0 - not an accurate reflection of their efforts and performance in the second half.
U13A - Won 14-1
The U13s recorded their first win of the season in emphatic style. From the first whistle they moved the ball with pace and purpose into wide areas and caused the Wakefield defence all sorts of problems. Xara Lewis was exceptional at right back, constantly providing an attacking outlet and creating chances. Both Alice Bunday and Emily Greenwood were strong and composed in the middle of the pitch; both scoring a number of goals. Zara Gilchrist showed much improvement in front of goal and took her chances well.
U12B - Won 9-1
The U12B team were also dominant as they comfortably beat Wakefield. The KGS girls carried the ball well into dangerous areas and made sure the Wakefield keeper was kept busy all game. The match was played in great spirit and the U12s certainly seem to be enjoying their first experiences of competitive hockey at KGS.
U12A - Won 11-1
The U12A team continued their impressive start to the season with a big win over Wakefield. The KGS girls dominated from the first whistle. The defence did well when called upon to clear away the rare Wakefield attacks and get the ball forwards. The midfield/attack showed great skill to move the ball around the Wakefield defence and create numerous chances.
Thursday 30 September – Saturday 2 October 2021
The KGS 1st and 2nd XI squads travelled down to Millfield School, Somerset last weekend to take on their senior hockey sides.
The 2nd XI took to the pitch first. It took some time to adjust to the water-based pitch which Millfield took advantage of converting early on to take the game to 1-0. KGS battled hard but struggled to attack beyond their attacking 23. Ariana Milligan stamped her ground on the game making some excellent passes from the centre of midfield. Unfortunately the girls defended for the majority of the game resulting in a loss, but very much enjoyed the experience of playing against top class opposition.
In the 1st XI match the girls started well with some great attacking runs from Natasha Hartley-Smith. Great distribution from Libby Baxter allowed for good build up play but it couldn’t keep out an outstanding Millfield side. KGS continued to battle and created chances in front of goal but unfortunately were unable to convert due to some excellent goal keeping. A great game with lots of positives to take away in preparation for the next tier 1 England Hockey match vs Sedbergh School this Wednesday at KGS.
