County-wide baton relay arrives at KGS!

At the beginning of March, the countdown to the SPAR Lancashire School Games Finals began with a county-wide baton relay. The 2022 Games are the first to have an Olympic or Commonwealth Games style baton relay. The metallic gold baton is being passed on to different schools as it makes its way around the Red Rose County’s 12 districts ahead of the finale which takes place in Blackpool’s Stanley Park on Tuesday 5 July.

Beginning in West Lancashire, the baton was first handed over to pupils at an opening ceremony in Tarleton.

Today, Kirkham Grammar School pupils and staff congregated on the school lawn to give a warm welcome upon the arrival of the baton, before five pupils and staff set off to run to Ribby with Wrea Primary School for the next baton handover!
