KGS Under 14 cricket v Lancaster RGS - Thursday 26 May
LRGS - 90 all out (Yates 3 for 21 / Smith 2 for 15)
KGS - 59 all out (Yates 20)
LRGS won by 31 runs
On a difficult wicket and in tough weather conditions, Kirkham battled hard in the third round of the Lancashire Cup, only to be defeated by a very strong LRGS side. Surprisingly the opposition decided to bat first after winning the toss and struggled to bat on a wicket that kept low. Charlie Bray and Theo Smith opened the bowling well with Bray bowling his best spell of the season getting Lancaster's opening batsmen out for only 3 runs. Captain, Collinson, also bowled a superb spell taking 2 wickets for 8 runs in 6 overs. Special mention should also go to Oliver Yates coming into the side for the Cup match, taking three wickets towards the end of the innings. The team also fielded well in the main and took a number of sharp catches in the field.
In reply, openers Collinson and Smith fell cheaply and most batsmen found it hard to score against an excellent opposition. Ali Shah stuck around and an exciting innings of 20 from Oliver Yates kept Kirkham in the game, until the middle order fell to disciplined and accurate bowling. Unfortunately, the team was all out for 59 which was a commendable effort on a difficult pitch against first-class opposition. Hopefully, the boys were not too disappointed after their tremendous half-term, winning 6 out of the 7 matches played.
