1st XV v Cheadle Hulme

The 1st XV completed a hard week of rugby with an excellent 55 – 19 win over Cheadle Hulme School. This was after beating Radley College 22-13 (the previous weekend) and drawing 10-10 with Hartpury College in a midweek match. In all three games, centre Osian Roberts was in outstanding form scoring numerous tries. Fellow centre and vice-captain, Cameron Scanlon was very solid in both attack and defence.

Against Cheadle Hulme, a number of players stood out with Captain, Darren Low in good form well- supported by back row forward, Oliver Corkish, whilst in the backs, Rhys Hulse controlled the game and Archie Dowds kicked well.

U15s v Cheadle Hulme U15s 

Kirkham U15s travelled to Cheadle Hulme for a well-fought win on a dry, autumn morning. The first half was slow and forward-orientated. The break could have gone either way, being 5-7. The second half brought more flare and excitement when the home team levelled the game to 12-12 with 20 minutes to go. Kirkham scored a further 4 tries to Cheadle's 1 making the final score 19-36 to the visitors.  

Kirkham conceded first to a strong Cheadle team who loaded pressure from the get go. Kirkham struggled getting out of their 22 for the first 10 minutes. Their patience paid off when they got a scrum 5 metres out. Captain, Rowan Edwards picked the ball from the base of the scrum and didn’t stop for anyone. Jack Wilsdon made the conversion (5-7). Kirkham went into overdrive with their defence just before half time with outstanding tackling from everyone to keep them in the lead.

The second half brought more tries: firstly through top try scorer, Josh Sumner, who scored 2 in the game. He found himself in open space both times running in both tries comfortably. The try of the game was finished by Alex Davies. It started with a cross field kick from Anton Gildea and with some great foot-balling skills Stan Collinson poked the ball off his left foot into the goal area for Alex to pounce on. Two more short distance tries from Lewis Simpson and Rowan Edwards put the away team convincingly ahead with 2 more conversions for Jack Wilsdon. The home team finished the flurry of tries with an intercept try to finish the game 19-36.

Thank you to all spectators that travelled and well done to both teams involved. Kirkham will face Ripley St Thomas in the Lancashire Cup on Tuesday.

U14s v Cheadle Hulme School

49 v 12 

The U14s, after an injury ravaged start to the season, got off to an excellent start after half term beating Cheadle Hulme by 7 trys to two.

The first score went to Shaw whose speed and footwork caused Cheadle problems all morning; the sure-footed Yates adding the extras. The next score was against the run of play with Kirkham under pressure, Yates intercepted in midfield and strode away to score under the posts. The next score was straight off the training ground with Barton creating space for Dawson-Gerrard to power over. Cheadle came back before half time with their strong running number 8 to the fore to complete the first half scoring at 21-5 to KGS.

 The second half scoring started with Shaw again showing Cheadle a clean pair of heels. Right winger, De Klerk, was not to be outdone as he scampered over for the next two scores. Cheadle scored next under the posts to make it 42-12 before Shaw again broke away to score his hat trick. Yates kicked 5 from 5 conversions with Graham and Shaw adding the other two.

Shaw was undoubtedly the star of the show, but Hill put in his usual hard-working performance. Ball had his best game of the season distributing well and also putting in some excellent tackles, but player of the match for his non-stop efforts in defence and at the breakdown was Z Graham.

U13s v Cheadle Hulme

The U13s played out an 18 try thriller away to Cheadle Hulme. The game was drawn 45 points all. The game ebbed and flowed with both sides playing some good rugby. Ziad Hassan (x5), Seb Clarke (x2) and Jack Gillett (x2) scored tries for KGS.

Kirkham Grammar Junior, Infant & Pre-School

Netball 

On Saturday, Kirkham Grammar School U11 girls travelled to St Mary’s Hall for their first netball fixture of the season. The sun shone and it was a fantastic morning of netball. 

The U11A team showcased their passing and movement skills throughout the game with plenty of goals scored, while the U11B team worked well as a team gaining plenty of game experience and improving their game play in each quarter.
