KGS 1st XI v Repton School (pictured above)

The 1st XI started their England Hockey Tier 1 quest this week in their first group game away at Repton School. It was always going to be a difficult match competing against various top class international players however, KGS stood strong and worked incredibly hard for the whole 70 minutes. The defence were outstanding with Emily Marsh controlling at centre back, England U18 goal keeper, Anya Jackson, made numerous outstanding saves to keep the score line as low as possible.

The squad now look forward to welcoming Trent College on Thursday 1 December for their next tier one match.

U15 v RGS Newcastle

The U15 team played RGS Newcastle on Saturday 19th November away at Wigton. The girls got off to a good start, working well together to pass the ball up the pitch and support each other. However, it was difficult for the girls when RGS were on the attack. RGS Newcastle were fast to get up the pitch meaning players were left unmarked which resulted in Newcastle scoring. The girls tried hard to score, however tired legs meant RGS were in our attacking half more than anticipated. At half time we made some changes and the girls went back out with a positive mind-set. They started to work more as a team supporting each other and moving the ball. However, RGS were not giving up. They met 50/50 balls which meant we needed to defend more than we could attack. We had a couple of opportunities to score but couldn't get a clear shot on goal. The final score was 4-0 to RGS Newcastle.

U14 v RGS Newcastle

The U14 worked incredibly hard throughout the entire game, applying what they had been previously working on during practices. This paid off well; KGS were able to keep hold of the ball and had a great deal of positional play working up the pitch. Unfortunately, despite keeping possession of the ball and having opportunities to shoot, KGS could not score. Half time saw nil-nil with both teams yet to score. KGS started to tire after working extremely hard for the whole duration of the game. Newcastle had a quick break, catching KGS on their back foot, which resulted in a goal to them. The KGS girls continued to work hard and changed to a defensive play tactic to ensure no more goals were conceded.

U13A v RGS Newcastle

The U13A came up against tough competition, with an end to end game throughout. The girls had to work up the pitch to score goals but everyone had to work back to help defend as much as they could. This was a very tiring game for the girls and, ultimately, a high scoring game. The first half ended 6-6 with goals from Holly, Holly and Lily.

The girls entered the second half with a positive attitude that the game was not over. However, Newcastle stepped up their game and we started to tire. Although the girls continued to work hard, some gaps on the pitch enabled Newcastle to score 4 goals. The result was a 10-6 loss, however, the girls should be very proud of their efforts.

U13B v RGS Newcastle

The U13B team played RGS Newcastle on Saturday 19th November away at Wigton. The girls got off to an amazing start, they were quick on the ball, passing as a team and working their way up the pitch. With good teamwork and communication, they defended well and worked up and down the pitch together which proved successful with the score being 8-0 to KGS at half time. After a positive half time talk, the girls went straight back on the pitch giving 100%. They met every 50/50 ball and were in the attacking half for most of the game. They worked hard, managing to score another 5 goals, which put the final score at 13-0 to KGS.

Swimming v QEGS Blackburn

The KGS swimming squad travelled to QEGS Blackburn for their annual friendly gala. KGS had a strong start with all five age groups securing victories in the 4x1 Individual medley event. The swimmers worked hard throughout, scoring highly in each individual event, placing KGS in a very strong position as they approached the relay events.

In the relay events, KGS continued to demonstrate their swimming abilities securing 1st place in 8 of 10 relay races.

A great overall victory for a very talented swim team.

1st XV v Leicester Grammar School

Kirkham Grammar School 1st XV won a comfortable 57-0 over Leicester Grammar School. The game was played at Sandbach Rugby Club in good weather conditions which allowed KGS to move the ball around. Jayreese Simms and Harry Reay were able to finish a number of impressive attacks which gave Kirkham the early lead. Captain, James Appeleton, was in good form and carried well as the KGS forward powered through the Leicester pack. Also on the score sheet were Harry Tomlinson, George Atherton and James Stacey as KGS ran out comfortable winners. Kirkham now look forward to Ballymena Academy at their Ribby Road ground next Friday.

U15s v Leicester Grammar School

Kirkham U15s travelled to sunny Sandbach Rugby Club to meet Leicester Grammar School for their second meeting. The final score was 7-54 to KGS with a flurry of tries in the middle 20 with some strong performances on show. Jack Wilsdon was top point scorer of the day with 2 tries and 7 conversions. Freddie Stott got over the line for 2 tries, Harry Marsh went the length of the pitch for his try, whilst Josh Sumner finished off a great team try in the final minute to keep up his scoring tally. Will Kelso and Rowan Edwards got one try a piece which were great individual successes.

U14s v Leicester Grammar School

After a confidence boosting win last Saturday at Cheadle and 2 good training sessions during the week, the U14s started strongly against Leicester. The game began with Dawson-Gerrard breaking away from half way to score in the corner after good build up play from the inside backs. The long-striding Virdee was next to get away to score in the opposite corner to give Kirkham an early 10 nil lead. Leicester then had a strong 10 minutes but some resolute defence with Parkinson, Hill, Dawson-Gerrard and Twose leading the way ensured the KGS line wasn’t breached. Kirkham were next to score with new centre pairing, Black and Yates, creating lots of opportunities. Stafford was the next beneficiary before Shaw, after last week's hat trick, put on the after-burners to scorch away for 2 more - making it 25-0 at half time. Virdee started the 2nd half scoring with a strong run to the corner, quickly followed by the powerful Dawson-Gerrard who also went in for his 2nd try. With Yates converting, the 2nd half finished the same way as the first with Shaw sprinting in for two more scores and 4 for the afternoon. Yates converted one to make the full time score 49-0.

U13s v Leicester Grammar School

The KGS under 13s had a strong performance on Saturday against Leicester GS. Playing on the hallowed 1st XV pitch at Sandbach RUFC, KGS came out of the blocks fast scoring 5 tries in the first 10 minutes. Ever credit to Leicester who worked hard, but they could not stop the flow of Kirkham tries which saw the score 35-5 at half time.

A rotated side in the 2nd half saw a much more even contest but KGS still managed to score another 4 tries to Leicester's 2 to leave the game 55-15.

U12s v Leicester Grammar School

The Under 12 squad earned a comfortable victory against Leicester Grammar School scoring eleven tries in the process and conceding only one. The whole squad of 16 made a significant contribution to the win with Marwan Hassan, Tom Medhurst and Hamish Gilchrist giving Kirkham the edge with some forging runs. The second half saw Leicester tire somewhat, however their spirit wasn`t dampened as they tried hard to quell the Kirkham ascendency. Kirkham put the ball through the hands very efficiently, with the width created contributing to many of the tries.
