On Wednesday 8 February, forty pupils from Second Year through to Upper Sixth Form went to London ready to be inspired by professionals in the theatre industry and gain an insight into potential careers in the performing arts.
Over the three days, pupils took part in two West End workshops. The first focused on teamwork and scripted performance using extracts from the musicals Wicked and The Wizard of Oz, and the second workshop explored how to use stage combat safely in a performance.
Pupils had some free time in the famous West End areas of Leicester Square and Covent Garden to have lunch and do some shopping.
We were also lucky enough to have been able to go to the V & A museum to see the new Re:Imagining Musicals exhibition, which is only on for a limited time. This display exceeded expectations as it certainly celebrated 'the glittering world of musical theatre', exploring the evolution and craftmanship of iconic musicals, from Miss Saigon and My Fair Lady to modern classics SIX the Musical, and Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.
In the evening, the pupils and staff went to the West End to watch a performance of the new musical, 'Back To The Future', which has some amazing technical effects and ingeniously adapts the iconic film of the eighties on stage.
The trip ended with a private tour of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre where the pupils were educated about Shakespeare's work and the history of The Globe Theatre.
A fabulous trip enjoyed by all.
