1st XI v Cheadle Hulme (pictured above)

The KGS 1st XI played well from the starting whistle making some great lead runs when in possession. Schofield and Tomes linked up well on the right to set Cole free on goal to convert the first. Great attacking play from Margerison opened up space for Cole to convert her second with her completing her hat trick shortly after. Marsh was in on the act converting from a corner whilst Tomes converted from open play.

The game was certainly dominated with the ball rarely entering KGS' final defensive quarter. The match finished at 10-0. The squad now look forward to their next sevens' tournament next week.

U15s v Cheadle Hulme School

The KGS U15 team went away to Alderly Edge Hockey Club to play Cheadle Hulme on Saturday. The girls got off to a good start full of grit and determination to win. They played some good balls up the line and passed well as a team working up the pitch. The girls had many opportunities to score and spent a lot of time in the attacking 23 however, were unable to put the ball away.

In the second half, the girls started to get tired and lose control of the ball at times allowing Cheadle to have more possession of the ball - which resulted in them being successful at goal. The girls tried hard and didn’t give up throughout; they had some good game play and great one-touch passes but were unable to put the ball in the back of the goal.

U14s v Cheadle Hulme School

The last game of the season was away at Cheadle for the U14 KGS girls. They knew it was going to be a tough game but the aim was to work as a team and work hard for the duration of the game. The girls worked hard to move the ball around, supporting play up the pitch working as a team and in pairs. The girls were unfortunate to concede a goal in the first half, but kept their heads high.

In the second half, KGS had three great opportunities to score but were unsuccessful.

U13A VII v Cheadle Hulme School

The U13 squad had a positive start going 1-0 up in the early stages of the game. Cheadle came back strong and made KGS work hard to regain possession of the ball. Despite great defending from Edwards and Williams, Cheadle converted to take the score to 1-1.

Some excellent open play from Bailey and Miles set Ely through on goal to slot the ball home to take the score to 2-1 at the final whistle.

U13B Hockey v Cheadle Hulme School

The U13B team started very strong with lots of attacking play by the whole team. In the first half Anna scored a hat-trick, another goal was scored by from Jasmine and a cracking short corner strike from Megan. With a 5-0 lead at half time, the girls were eager to continue scoring in the second half. A goal from Sophia and another 2 were scored by Anna. Cheadle managed to score two goals very late on in the game meaning the final result was 8-2. A great way to finish the season. Well done, girls!

U12A VII v Cheadle Hulme School

The U12 squad had a strong start to their game with some great attacking play. Dunne and Osborne linked up well on the right, whilst Townsend and Maclean-Bristol did the same down the left. It wasn't long before the first goal was converted from a well-worked short corner. The attacking play continued with KGS going on to score a further four goals to leave the final score at 5-0.

U12B v Cheadle Hulme School

Straight from the first whistle, the U12B team were determined to make a good start and with this, Zara put away the first goal in the first minute of the game. KGS continued to attack and put a couple of shots wide. Birdie put the next goal away with some excellent passing from the defence through to midfield. Aimee then got onto the scoresheet with a great individual goal. As well as some great attacking play, there was also some great defending from Juno, Sofia A and Harriet keeping the opposition out of the D. KGS' fourth goal was scored by Lizzy with speed and skill. The girls were hungry from more goals and Birdie scored another two in quick succession. The second half continued in the same way: Lizzy made some fantastic runs using her pace, scoring the final goal making it 7-0. A fabulous performance by all girls and a great way to end a brilliant season for KGS!

U18s Birkenhead School Sevens

The 2nd VII travelled to Birkenhead School to defend the trophy KGS won last season.

KGS started strongly in the group stages against a gritty Calday side running out 40-0 winners. This was followed with 2 further wins against Altrincham GS (47-5) and Merchant Taylor's School (35-10) to top the group.

In the quarter-final stage, they faced the highly regarded Coleg Llandrillo side. From the first minute KGS took control of the game and, thanks to some excellent ball movement and work at the breakdown, managed to run out 42-7 winners.

In the semi-final, they then took on The King's School, Macclesfield and yet again controlled proceedings against a resilient outfit. KGS kept their composure well at crucial moments in the first half to grab the initiative and then finished powerfully to run out 43-7 victors.

The final saw Kirkham play St Anselm's College in what was a very good game of sevens. After some inspirational words from Mr Lyon, KGS scored 3 early tries. However, the Birkenhead outfit scored tries either side of half time to make it 27-12 with 5 minutes to go. Nevertheless, the superior skill and fitness, along with good impact from the bench saw KGS slowly ease to a 53-17 victory to win the Cup and retain the title.

Squad: Sam Lewtas (Capt.), Jos Gilmore, Oliver Greenwood, Ollie Cook, Vinny Durcan, Jayrese Simms, Kwesi Boateng, Wills Gut, Luke Denn, Efan Edwards, George Curphey & James Appleton.
