KGS 1st XI v Cheadle
Kirkham Grammar School 1st XI (pictured right) made a great start to their 2023/24 season with an impressive 7-0 victory v Cheadle. The team was lead by captain, Jess Cole, who slotted away four goals within the game. Great build up play in the defence and midfield allowed the forwards to run riot, with Frankie Margerison and Louisa Proctor creating great opportunities through on goal. Tomlinson and Tomes controlled the midfield with outlets, Schofield and Smith, playing integral parts throughout the game. Congratulations to those players who made their 1st XI debut! KGS now look forward to their next fixture on Wednesday against Merchant Taylors away.
KGS U15 v Cheadle
Kirkham Grammar School U15 girls (pictured below) played their first hockey game of the season, a home fixture against Cheadle. The girls got off to a good start working as a team and moving the ball around, and up the pitch, well. This allowed Kirkham to spend a lot of time in our attacking 23. The game gave the defence the opportunity to show off their skills. In defence, Tilly Tomlinson worked hard keeping the ball away from the goal with Evelyn So and Xara Lewis pushing the ball up to the KGS midfield. In the middle, Emily Greenwood and Alice Bunday worked hard opening lots of opportunities to score with Issy Gut running the ball up the left. At the end of the first half, the 
score was 2-0 to KGS. In the second half, the KGS girls tightened up in defence giving Cheadle minimal scoring opportunities. The ball was played up the pitch well by KGS with lots of chances to score however, they just couldn't find the back of the net. Final score 2-1 to KGS and the Player of the Match was Tilly Tomlinson.
KGS U14 v Cheadle
In a spirited debut 11-a-side game for the Kirkham Grammar School U14 girls, the match ended in an intense 1-1 draw. Both teams showed determination and skill, setting a strong foundation for the upcoming season. KGS took an early lead with a well-executed play, but Cheadle fought back admirably, eventually scoring to level the game. The match showcased their potential and highlighted areas for improvement, offering valuable lessons for the future. This promising start in 11-a-side hockey fuels excitement for the season ahead. The girls are eager to build on this experience and strive for even greater success. Final score 1-1.
KGS U13A v Cheadle Hulme
Kirkham Grammar School U13A team picked up where they left off from the National Cup fixture against Stockport with a dominant 3-0 win against Cheadle Hulme. KGS started quickly on the front foot and created chances as the midfield moved the ball quickly and attackers found space in the D. Following numerous saves by the Cheadle goalkeeper to keep KGS at bay, Kirkham scored late in the first half with goals from Hollie Guthrie and Lois So. KGS continued to dominate in the second half and more chances followed with good ball movement and excellent positional play. Imi Osborne added a third goal shortly before the final whistle following a good piece of individual skill which gave her time in the D to place her shot past the keeper. Final score 3-0 to Kirkham.
KGS U13B v Cheadle
Kirkham Grammar School U13B (pictured right) played some beautiful and skilful hockey. They hit a great strike from a short corner that hit the GK in the chest, but couldn't capitalise on the opportunity. Again KGS hit the post three times and narrowly missed the goal on numerous occasions, but Kirkham could not gain the upper hand. Nevertheless, it was a fantastic start to the season.
KGS U12A v Cheadle
Kirkham Grammar School U12A displayed outstanding teamwork, clinching a 4-2 victory against Cheadle. They dominated the first half securing an early lead and executing strategic plays. Cheadle fought back with determination, managing to score and keep the game competitive. However, Kirkham U12A maintained their momentum, extending their lead in the second half and securing a well-deserved win. Final score 4-2 to Kirkham.
KGS U12B v Cheadle
In a closely contested match, Kirkham U12B emerged victorious with a narrow 1-0 win against Cheadle. The game remained intensely competitive with both teams creating scoring opportunities that ultimately went unrewarded. However, Kirkham U12B managed to secure a crucial goal and clinch a hard-fought victory. Their solid defence and relentless determination were instrumental in preserving the lead, showcasing the team's resilience in the face of an arduous challenge. This win will undoubtedly boost their confidence as they progress in the league, building on this foundation for future triumphs. Final score 1-0 to Kirkham.

KGS 1st XV v Llandrillo College
Won 52-0
Last Wednesday, Kirkham Grammar School 1st XV played their first home fixture of the season against Llandrillo College North Wales. The first half was a very close encounter, with both teams tackling well and competing hard at the breakdown. Kirkham eventually started to break Llandrillo down, scoring two tries through the driving maul and a third from a chip and chase. In the second half, Kirkham took firm control of the game as Llandrillo started to tire. Good vision from fly half, Ollie Davies, and slick handling from the Kirkham backs allowed James Stacey, Sebbi Krippner and Vinnie Durcan to finish off some entertaining play. Final score 52-0 to Kirkham.

KGS Rugby v St Ambrose
KGS 2nd XV v St Ambrose
Building from last week's powerful performance against Wirral, Kirkham Grammar School 2nd XV played St Ambrose and it was another very strong performance from the KGS boys. Kirkham started well with some early tries, one in the form of a brilliant solo effort from Taran Mathauda who showed blistering pace and footwork to cut through the Ambrose defence from 60 metres out and dot down under the sticks. Harry Case came back into the starting line-up and added a handful of tries. He also showed how accurate his boot was, converting from the touchline with ease. Kirkham finished the half on top. With several changes into the second half, St Ambrose looked to try and get some momentum back but the Kirkham changes brought too much energy and were ultimately too strong. A beautiful chip through from Sam Dixon with the flyer, Jonny Walsh, getting on the end of it finished the game off. Special mention to Sam Littler who was very physical throughout, Tom Carter in the Centre and Captain, Harrison Causey, who lead by example throughout the game putting his body on the line and doing the hard graft around the park. Final score 45-12 to KGS.
KGS U18A v St Ambrose 1st XV
On Saturday, Kirkham Grammar School U18A (pictured right) hosted St Ambrose and were keen to turn last season's result around where Kirkham went down 22-19 against an aggressive St Ambrose 1st XV. Kirkham started the game poorly making a number of handling errors and giving away a few penalties. They soon found themselves 14-0 down. However, just before half time, Kirkham's attack started to flow and Ollie Cook crossed the try line on the left wing to make the half time score 14-5. In the second half, Kirkham dominated the territory and the Kirkham forwards started to gain the upper hand up front. Kirkham scored a fantastic team try, following a number of phases that started in their own half. The try was finished off by fly half, Ted Wilson. Soon after this, replacement hooker, Jack Austin, dotted the ball down at the back of a strong driving maul. A few minutes later, Kirkham took their driving maul to St Ambrose again and back row, Alfie Guthrie, eventually scored a hard worked try for Kirkham. St Ambrose kept fighting and added further points through the boot of their Irish International fly half. Eventually Kirkham were able to secure victory and finish off the game with a well-executed set move to see Vinny Duran cross the line. Final score 24-20 to Kirkham.
KGS U16s v St Ambrose
Kirkham Grammar School U16s welcomed St Ambrose for their third game of the season. A near perfect pitch allowed for high intensity, running rugby. However, the visitors had other plans. Ambrose opted for a very direct, forward dominated style of play. Kirkham soaked up wave after wave of physical Ambrose attack and were soon rewarded for their hard work. Fantastic work at the breakdown meant Kirkham got lots of turnover ball which turned defence into attack. Once Kirkham scored their first try, the floodgates began to open and they began scoring at regular intervals. A fantastic result against a tough opposition. Final score 50-3 to Kirkham.
KGS U13A v St Ambrose
Kirkham Grammar School Under 13A team ground out a superb win at St Ambrose scoring two tries in each half. The first came from Harry Lawson who led from the front throughout, after some industrious work from the forwards, he forced his way over in the left corner. Josh Walker-Basham added a second before the break to give Kirkham a deserved lead. The second half saw the hosts really take the game to Kirkham as Ambrose had much more of the ball but stout defence kept the attacks at bay. However, relentless driving by the home pack eventually told and ended with a close range try. Undeterred, Kirkham then enjoyed a good period of possession and went close to scoring on three occasions before Lawson and Walker-Bashem scored another try each to give Kirkham a 20-5 win.
KGS U13B v St Ambrose
Playing away at St Ambrose, Kirkham Grammar School U13B team played bravely against a big physical St Ambrose team. With standout performances from Chris Davies and Ayo Fowora both scoring tries. Final score 45-15 to St Ambrose.

J3 and J4 Hockey v St Mary's Hall
Kirkham Grammar School J3 and J4 pupils (pictured below) travelled to St Mary's Hall for their first hockey fixture of the season. The pupils formed four teams and took part in a fantastic morning of hockey. All teams took lots of positives from the games and played some excellent hockey.
