LTA U13 & U15 Tennis
Our LTA competition tennis squads have been busy on court playing their local league matches in the hope for a spot in the regional finals.
Our U13 division one squad impressed within their doubles matches away at Merchant Taylors whilst our U15 players fought hard taking the matches to a 'shoot out' after both teams drew level. We look forward to the next round! In division 2, our teams met AKS. Some very close matches were had with our U15 team taking the victory and our U13s narrowly missing out. The U13s started with their doubles matches first, displaying some excellent skill, determination and teamwork. The U15s dominated their doubles matches before taking to the singles. KGS took a convincing victory overall in both age groups.
U18 Aberdare Cup (pictured at the top of this page)
On Wednesday 24 May, the U18 tennis team travelled to Sedbergh for their next match in the Aberdare Cup Competition. The KGS girls all play singles matches against their seeded opponents, followed by doubles matches. Freya and Mia both had convincing wins in their singles matches (6-0 and 6-1) and won their doubles match 6-1. In some fiercely fought games and points, Megan and Trish in the doubles and Trish in the singles lost their games which meant that it was down to Megan to win her singles in order for us to progress to the next round. Megan played brilliantly, with some excellent serving and won her game 6-3. Fantastic individual and team performances from all four girls.
Final score: KGS 8 – 4 Sedbergh.
KGS look forward to their next match against Stonyhurst.
Well done to all our tennis players.

J1 Cricket v Sedbergh School
On Wednesday 17 May, all of the Kirkham Grammar Junior School J1 pupils took part in a Dynamo Cricket match v Sedbergh U9s. As the J2 classes were on a trip, it was a good opportunity to give many of the J1 pupils their first experience of a cricket fixture. Although Sedbergh won the 2 matches, all of the children enjoyed the experience and learned a lot about how to play the game. There was some fantastic batting displays and all of the children did the school proud.
Striking and Fielding Festival
Last Thursday 18 May, a group of J2 pupils took part in a Striking and Fielding Festival at AKS. The children took part in a variety of throwing, catching and striking events, collecting points on each station. The children worked extremely hard as a team and had a wonderful afternoon developing their skills in a competitive environment.
AJIS INSPiRE Festival
On Friday 19 May, a group of J4 children travelled to Manchester Grammar to take part in the AJIS 'INSPiRE' festival. The children played 9 games of 'end ball', including a couple of games against each other. The game was new to all 10 pupils, but this didn't stop them getting stuck in and giving it their best! The team showed great determination throughout the afternoon developing their skill level and tactical awareness in each game.
