For over 35 years pupils have enjoyed the opportunity to become involved in co-curricular speech and drama. LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) speech and drama lessons include tuition in acting skills, improvisation, verse and prose speaking, reading aloud, mime and public speaking. These are intended to improve standards of communication through the spoken word and encourage the development of individual talent. Pupils work towards examinations graded from 1-8 with the higher grade medal examinations now contributing points towards UCAS university entrance. Pupils also have the opportunity to prepare work for local speech and drama festivals if they wish.
Lamda tuition is offered to all year groups and lessons are individual, private, half hour sessions that are timetabled to avoid the core subjects of English and Maths. There lessons take place in the imposing space the Old Hall provides. Recently a Medal Course in Public Speaking has become available to Sixth Form pupils who wish to develop their communication skills.
