As part of our World Book Week celebrations, we were delighted to welcome Number One best-selling, multi-award winning author of the GEEK GIRL series, Holly Smale to Kirkham Grammar School yesterday morning. The series is humourous fiction which follows the life of Harriet Manners, a nerdy 15 year old girl who tries out modelling to 'reinvent herself'.
Holly spoke to our First, Second and Third Year pupils about her own school days of being bullied and how her career developed as a writer. Holly, who has a BA in English Literature and an MA in Shakespeare, described the writing process she uses and gave some structure and tips for pupils to use.
At lunchtime pupils were invited to visit the library to purchase one of Holly's books which she personally signed.
The event, organised to also coincide with National Careers Week, was an excellent opportunity for us to promote reading and writing for pleasure.
